Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do you have electricity?  Yes!  But it is a choice to not use it in the actual formation of this work.  It is a challenge, but it does end up creating work like no other anywhere.  And re-using (NOT recycling) is much better for the planet.

2. What are the cords made of and what kind of clasp is used? 
The cord is a very durable material - similar to shoelaces in fine men's shoes.  It is used in long-line fishing in which thousands of yards are pulled in with "tons" of fish.  Very durable.  The "clasp" is my invention.  I created a sliding loop allowing wearers to switch from choker to 24 inches or more or any increment in between.  It is one of the big reasons my pendants out-sell my earring line 2 to 1.

3. Did you "find" the earring wire? 
No... the earring wires are hand-made from surgical steel that I found through a medical supplier. They are completely hypoallergenic. I have never had a pair returned in 18 years.
I also include a clear earring guard with each because I often have no way of creating a match for lost earrings.

4. How do you get the colors on the copper? 
I don't need to do anything!  I rely of finding scraps from demolitions and roofing companies and my local scrap metal yard here on Maui.  Quite possibly the most difficult part of what I do is finding cool stuff.  My favorite is flashing from roofs, but when I am lucky I can find decades old copper gutters which - thanks to all the natural elements in the leaves and rain - are often complete works of art with unreal layers of every color in the rainbow.

5. Do you sell retail from a web site? 
No, I have never been able to afford to sell to individuals as each piece can vary so much. So I depend on my fine retailers - there are about 45 across the world - to represent my work and many of them happily sell on-line. I do retail face-to-face at a weekly art program at the Four Seasons Resort & Spa here on Maui, but I simply have no time to do one-on-one retail sales beyond that. My ten years (founding group) at the Four Seasons is my link to the public and my market testing is very thorough.

This is direct from a roofing company.  it's very old flashing that is used to help channel water
where ever wood joints or peaks are found.  This piece is from the top peak and one side was exposed to the south and the other to the north and - WOW!  I am always so amazed at the designs & colors that
Mother Nature creates for me.

The cord is very durable and completely adjustable.  The earring wires are hand-made from medical grade surgical steel and are completely hypoallergenic.
